Coffee, so addictive !

“Coffee is very good to help digestion, to quicken the spirits, and to cleanse the blood.”

But that’s not why I am madly, deeply in love with coffee. It’s our staple drink. I can’t think of my day without coffee, it’s an energizer, a kick I can’t deter, a drug to steer myself around :). Coffee is the best stimulant according to me. Mornings are never the same without filter coffee.

Have tried coffee from Chennai to Calcutta, Cambodia to California but nothing quite like my own home brewed filter-coffee.

When ever I am away from home, I fondly remember mesmerizing home made filter coffee. My mom brews an awesome filtered coffee at home. One sip of this delicious drink will make you understand why Indian filter coffee is such a revered beverage down South.

Coffee is a major social institution in my part of the world. It can be described as being an icon of Kannada culture and is a revered tradition in most households. It is customary that a cup of coffee is offered to any visitor when visiting a household in South India. | via-rk

Now a day’s Bangalore has got that winter painted all over, specially around those homes located close by to vast green parks. Bangalore’s unique winter demands something to warm you up and there’s nothing like hot filter coffees at Darshini’s than boring alien coffees at Coffeeday’s ;)

It’s an amazing feeling to take a stroll with loved one hand-in-hand and share a hot ‘filter-coffee’ at near by coffee shop. I’ve my favorite hang-outs to taste amazing coffee at Bangalore. I love that hot aroma of Kotha’s coffee in various coffee shops of Bangalore :)

Some of my favorite coffee-shops based on heavenly taste !

  1. South-Thindis – they call it ‘Half Glass Kaapi’ at Basavanagudi
  2. Maiya’s – Chicori-less Filter coffee at  Jayanagar
  3. Kalmane – ‘Lemongrass Coffee’ at  Jayanagar
  4. SLV Fast Food – popular coffee at Banashankari 2nd Stage
  5. Konark – ‘hot coffee in hot glass cup’ in Residency Road
  6. Upahara Darshini -  quiky coffee tastes great at Basavanagudi
  7. Indian Coffee house – traditional filter coffee at MG-Road
  8. Raghavendra tiffan’s hot-cup-coffee, near  at JP-Nagar

Hyderabad musing

I am in Hyderabad for couple of weeks.

Its immensely different experience and I’m loving this new phase of my career taking me to different geographies. I really admire the interesting demographic diversities of incredible India. Food, culture, people, weather everything has a different aspect to it in Hyderabad. But I surely miss the elegance of Bangalore and the ease I feel there. One thing witnessed, slowly and steadily Bangalore weather is matching hot and sharpening weather of Hyderabad.

I am so much so mingled with Bangalore when it comes to savoring its seasons & its offerings. Seasonal fruits, seasonal cuisines, food festivals etc. I may have to discover that part in Hyderabad yet.

This time, more than anything I missed in Hyderabad was jack-fruit. Yes ! it is. I am a die-hard fan of jack fruit :). I tried to find it in every shopping mall, fruit outlets, for no avail. It’s the seasonal fruit in Bangalore this time.

I miss rainy days of Bangalore in Hyderabad. Nothing can beat that slow paced driving between gulmohars of Jayanagar feeling those droplets on car windshield, stretched hand feeling that drizzle. Day before leaving Bangalore, it rained and squirrels came into my drawing room via open balcony, with so much of happiness and vigor that, they picked-up pea nuts without even bothering about my presence :) !

And more missing from my essential part of health regime was tender coconut. I rarely find tender coconuts vendor in high-tech city area of Hyderabad !

Whenever I hit borders of Bangalore I feel I’m back home. First thing I did when I came back this weekend was to get a large portion of jack-fruit back home and savoring every aromatic, honeyed taste of it !  :)
